Recovering from his Operation Arctic Sting injuries, USS Teuthis Executive Officer Mac McDowell is tasked with laying SOSUS arrays in the southern Atlantic and off Thurston Island, Western Antarctica. Teuthis tangles with Argentine subs in the south Atlantic, then confronts a ChiCom sub off Thurston Island. Mac and his team experience serious setbacks at the hands of the ChiComs while installing a relay transmitter on a nearby mountain peak.

Teuthis discovers an underwater oil operation off Thurston Island andis tasked with escorting a Taiwanese sub and underwater tanker under the cover of the largest military marine exercise since World War II: PacEx89. Teuthis is attacked by a Chinese Han-class sub and a previously unknown North Korean AIP sub despite the protection provided by three U.S. fast-attack subs. Will Mac and Teuthis complete their mission, or will they finally meet their watery graves on the Pacific Ocean abyssal plain?

I’ve made it very plain to my dad that we READ these stories a hell of a lot faster than he WRITES them, but one or two novels a year seems to be about the best pace the old man can manage.

He thinks we could all just… read slower, maybe? Spread it out, maybe just a chapter a day. Something about a novel being lots of work to write.

So go ahead. Try it! Read the first chapter, and see if you don’t wind up bleary-eyed and late for work the next day with NO MORE BOOK.

Apparently he’s motivated by book reviews. So if you REALLY want to know what happens next… write one of your own.

In this book, Mac and his team head to the Southern Atlantic Ocean near Argentina and Antarctica to lay more surveillance arrays in the ocean. This time, they're harrassed by a bevy of foreign baddies wishing them no good and trying to steal oil while causing chaos to boot. More underwater action with the same issues in this book. Still, it was worth reading to the end.

I'm a member of the ARC team and have left an honest review voluntarily.

To say that I am a fan of this book series is a serious understatement, when I say that I have been salivating and chomping at the bit to get my hands on this book for well over a year you cannot understand just how long or much I have been waiting for this moment. To date I have read and reviewed every book and audiobook in this series and have been trying to keep the rabid fan in check for this review... here goes.

Mac is Back! But where to start... holy crap, the book pulls no punches and Commander McDowell gets zero breaks in this book. Starting off where the previous book left off Mac had just lost his great love, Kate, but not everything is as it seems. You have no idea how much I want to talk in explicit detail about this book but I do not want to take the first read from you, potential readers.

It took me a while to read this book, not because it wasn't enjoyable but because I have a surplus of work and a deficit of time these days, but lucky for me two days before I finished reading this book the audiobook finally came out so now I get to go back through it with the audible narration.

Doctor Williscroft puts a lot into these books and I understand why it takes so long for them to come out but man... I wish it didn't take so long because I already want the next part!

If I had to point out one teeny tiny inconsistently it's that Mac's coffee order appears to change from Ivy Bells to White Out. If I remember correctly he used to take it Blonde and Sweet and now he takes it Black. But literally, that's the only "issue" I have.
