Safe at Home: Warm Springs Trilogy, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 404 ratings

Driven by fear and desperate to protect her family, Samantha is forced to leave Chicago and everything she's worked to achieve, only to start over by tossing a dart at the map. The Georgia town's folk true Southern charm is the unexpected prescription needed to heal her soul, and the sexy carpenter who touches her heart is a distraction she didn't plan on, but they might offer her a chance at a new life, if she can let go of her past.

Town heartbreaker Spencer Malloy isn't looking for anything serious. His days are perfect working as a contractor, attending his nephew's baseball games, or taking him fishing. He never expects to fall for the big city girl, Samantha. She's not his type, timid and closed off, but in her unguarded moments, he's intrigued by the woman he can't get out of his mind. The urge to get closer to her grows stronger each day, and when the shadow of evil resurfaces, he vows to protect Samantha, even if it means abandoning his home and joining her on the run.

When confronted by the man who's bent on revenge, Samantha must choose between running again to save the people she loves, or, if she has the strength, to stay and fight for her new life.

He's out for revenge and no one who knows Sam is safe. Running from a fast, she makes a life she didn't mean to have. Things are going good with Spencer, but will she stay knowing danger is around the corner?

Thank you for this thrilling and chilling story about Sam's journey to peace and safety to a new life. I enjoyed the many wonderful characters and the storyline with the exception of the evil that was stalking Sam. I am glad that Spencer's love overcame the ugliness. I look forward to reading more of your work.

I have to say, there were several places in this book I never realized I stopped breathing. The suspense, love, and drama made it so I felt compelled to read and not stop until I finished. A wonderful read.

Not your every day romance. This novel offers so much more! I really liked the characters and their relationships. The setting was right on mark for small town America, Romance lovers will not be disappointed in the connection ,love and sparks between Sam and Spencer. But hold on tight and turn on the light for the suspense because it will grab you! Ms. Kirby has written a book that would make a great Lifetime movie! A must read! Looking forward to the second book in this trilogy!

The plot took first place and the daily actions of the main characters followed the plot instead of common sense. You don't move to a small town when you are trying to not be noticed or develop friendships. You don't buy a house in your real name. You don't get a cell phone with the area code of your new home. And when your best friends is murder and you know who did it, if never occurred to you too call the police and tell them? And what was everyone thinking leaving a little kid in her care while everyone else is busy, knowing a homicidal manic is in town and had publicly proclaimed her time is almost done? The list of inconsistencies can go on and on.
On the bright side there were few words misspelled. Grammer was pretty good. The writing style was good. The author just needs to put more thought into making the story work.

I enjoyed reading this story because I really connected with the characters and the small town they live in. It was a great escape with many twists and turns. And who doesn't get into a great love story? Spencer's the best! Tina Kirby is a very talented author, and I'm excited to read the next two in this series.

This was a pretty good book jumping from one person to the next got on my nerves when you didn't know you were reading about the next person without a chapter to separate them. But overall it was pretty good.

Ms. Kirby is a new-to-me author. I was very impressed with her work. While this book did not fit my usual genre of inspirational, it certainly fit the bill of clean. Ms. Kirby managed to convey angst, drama, and romance without the use of crude props. Kudos, Ms. Kirby. I'll be buying more of your work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for the gruesome parts!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 18, 2017
For me the main body of the story worked well, however parts of it were just a bit too gruesome. I thought the torture scenes were just a bit too gratuitous and after the first one (which took me by surprise) I really couldn't read them in depth. I'm probably just a bit too squeamish, but they really did give me restless nights!
Apart from that, as one other reviewer mentioned, I really didn't understand why she didn't go to the police sooner, it just didn't seem to ring true. There were a few other holes along these lines, but then i remembered that it's only a story!
On the plus side, Spencer was a great hero, the book was well written and the story a good one. It was very suspenseful (is that even a word?) and really did have you on the edge of your seat at a number of parts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Plot

I enjoyed the story generally and found there was a deep connection between the female protagonist, Sam, and Spencer. The plot kept me turning the pages, but I found that the villain's rationale for going after Sam was not reasonable or believable, to even the villain. In spite of that, the story was well-written and I loved the characters in the town of Warm Springs. It had an interesting climactic ending too. Well worth a read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wrong type of story for me.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 15, 2017
This story starts off with a gentle introduction to our heroine, with an unknown sad past, and the potential hero and a few others with just a slight hint of something potentially unpleasant. Then suddenly the reading becomes quite uncomfortable. Another reviewer has mentioned torture and my advice is similar to theirs- avoid chapter 10 if you are of a sensitive disposition!
The romantic relationship then continues to develop, but so does the level of suspense and I'm afraid this is when I began to skim read. I couldn't stand the knowledge/feeling that something horrible was going to happen to somebody, even if not to the H&h. The potential HEA couldn't compensate. It is a cleverly written novel but ultimately I like my books without the gratuitous, twisted, violent scenes likely to keep me awake at night.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better

Where do I start!? The whole idea of the story was far fetched but I could handle that. The reason the murderer wanted to kill Sam was rediculous and unbelievable. I thought it was all over the top and repetitive. Not a good book IMO. But I did finish it.
