Real World & Fantasy World Collide
Her bio says that Alison Jean Ash spent seven years working in shelters of homeless women and men. There she must have learned plenty about abusive relationships, and she surely drew on that knowledge in concocting this fantasy tale rooted in the real world. Strained family relationships and an abusive past are vividly and convincingly depicted at the opening of the story. These resurface in a magical and threatening world where the main character Cecily must learn many lessons about herself.Ash offers solid wisdom here as her fairytale plays out on different levels.I loved her use of the nursery rhyme and the birds throughout this charming story.

Door in the Tree is a great blend of fantasy/romance/mystery. When Cecily leaves an abusive relationship and returns home to take care of her equally abusive mother, she needs an escape. Drawn to the tree she loved as a child, Cecily finds a fantasy land where she learns to love again.

In this book, Ash demonstrates her ability to build a fantasy world where a grown-up can find strength. Loved the premise of this story.

I found this story to be a combination of mystery, suspense, fantasy, and romance. Cecily’s life change so much after the death of her father, she has an evil, hateful mother and she left home as soon as she could at eighteen. Naïve, innocent, and gullible, she is preyed upon by Philip whom she marries after only knowing him one month and they move from England to the US, cutting her completely off from any family or friend connections. Abuse for so many years, she divorces him and returns to Stow with her thirteen-year-old son to take care of her ailing mother. Seeking the comfort of her favorite childhood tree, she is drawn into a mystical land of fairies, creatures, druids, and magic. Cecily learns that love is stronger than revenge and that she is stronger than she realizes and capable of getting her happily ever after ending by showing strength and standing up for herself. Disclosure: I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

This wonderful fairytale is rooted in reality where abuse and power lurk in the real world, as dangerous as any evil queen. After a troubled past and present, Cecily must learn to trust others and believe in herself. A walk through fairyland gives her the gifts and faith she needs to grow, accept her past, and move on. I think this tale may really speak to people who have had to come through abuse to accept and love oneself and others.

Anyone who has dealt with abuse or tragedy can relate to this story. Cecily is broken and down but after Cecily enters a doorway through her favorite tree everything changes for her. She learns about friendship and the strength to move on, but not before some pretty amazing things happen

I couldn’t put the book down and finished in in a couple of hours. I recommend this book to anyone who likes an adventure with a happy-ever-after.

In Door in the Tree, Ms. Ash wove a fairytale about an enchanted kingdom where Cecily entered through a doorway in her favorite tree. While in this fairytale kingdom, Cecily experiences a journey of growth and development that gives her the keys to take back her life from the abusers. A well-written, gently told tale of growth and new-found strength. I highly recommend it.

I stepped out of my favorite genres and took a chance with The Door In The Tree. I am SO glad I did. I felt drawn into their world immediately, and that feeling is the joys of reading a great book. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves characters who grow and learn..
